Fletcher George is recruiting a Financial Controller for a successful, privately owned business in Central London. This is a key appointment within an entrepreneurial and growing business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function and work closely with the owners.
We are looking for an experienced accountant who combines strong technical skills with commercial awareness and enjoys being involved in the wider running of a business.
You will have responsibility for financial reporting, controls and day-to-day accounting, providing reliable and meaningful financial information to support business decisions.
The role offers considerable autonomy and variety and will suit an established Financial Controller or an experienced Finance Manager looking to take the next step in their career.

The Role
You will be responsible for the financial management and reporting of the business, maintaining effective accounting processes and providing the financial information needed to support its continued growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash flow reports
- Managing the day-to-day accounting function, including purchase and sales ledgers, expenses and bank reconciliations
- Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany accounts
- Overseeing VAT returns, payroll and related financial compliance
- Coordinating the annual audit and statutory accounts process with external accountants
- Managing financial reporting across multiple business entities
- Liaising with banks, auditors and external professional advisers
- Reviewing financial controls and identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes
- Providing financial insight and practical commercial support to the business owners
About You
We are looking for an experienced accountant with a strong financial accounting background who is confident managing a finance function within a commercial business.
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Strong financial accounting and management reporting experience
- Experience gained within a commercial, privately owned or owner-managed business
- Expert knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems
- A sound understanding of VAT, payroll and financial controls
- Good commercial awareness and the ability to interpret and communicate financial information effectively
- The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently
- Confidence in dealing directly with business owners and senior management
- A practical, organised approach with a willingness to take responsibility and improve existing processes
Applications are welcomed from ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified and qualified by experience (QBE) accountants with the relevant background.
Of particular interest will be candidates who combine strong technical accounting skills with commercial awareness and the confidence to manage the finance function independently.
Location and Package
The role is based in Central London, with hybrid working arrangements.
The salary is £55,000 – £75,000, depending on experience and qualifications, together with a discretionary bonus and an extensive healthcare-related benefits package.
